Aydenn's Story

Aydenn Elise was born in 2006, treated for Leukemia starting at the age of 18 months, and lost her battle with the disease in December 2011, at the age of 5.

Aydenn Elise was born deaf but she was taught sign language to be able to communicate with others. Aydenn was given the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in June 2008. ALL was discovered when the surgical scar from having a cochlear implant did not heal, and she had high fevers. She underwent surgery to remove the cochlear implant. Her ALL treatment began immediately with chemotherapy and a 6-week hospital stay. Aydenn endured every hospital stay, doctor visit, infusion clinic visit, and each surgery, including a Mediport placement, always happy, smiling and strong, like the HERO she was, and NEVER giving up. She went in and out of remission, and had also received a bone marrow transplant.

After relapsing the third time, with no other treatment options available, Aydenn became terminal, with Leukemia in her liver and bone marrow.

Aydenn was one of a kind with a lively personality, leaving an impression on everyone she met; a real trooper, and loved to play with Barbie® and LEGO®. She had the eyes of an eagle and never let you forget how well she remembered. She always had a smile on her face, and the best giggle EVER.  Aydenn Elise is the granddaughter of Rebecca Goldsmith, Founder and Executive Director of LEGOS BUILD HOPE.
